Our staff is experienced, friendly, and most of all helpful. We want everyone to have a positive cycling expereince.

Read about the folks that work at our shop.

Marty Gallagher

Marty Gallagher took over operations of Pro Bikes in 2005 after six long years as an employee under former owner Fred Schuldt. In addition to working and riding her bikes, Marty is a vocalist for the local band Red Dirt Floor. She is the co-founder of the local cycling advocacy organization, Asheville On Bikes. She strives to play an active role in the cycling community. If all of this is not enough to keep her busy, she's also enrolled in business classes at AB Tech. She spends a considerable amount of time at Pro Bikes hunched over her computer in her office (NO, she's not on Facebook or shopping on Zappos.com!) If you can catch her out on the floor at the shop, she's always happy to chat about bikes, bike stuff, rides, the nasty, nasty weather or your personal life (or other people's personal lives, for that matter). So if you have a bike question or a personal problem, just drop by and pick up her two cents.

Jamie Ritchey

Jamie serves as our shop entertainment.  Despite his appearance and behavior he is actually a capable bike mechanic.  He worked as a Team wrench for Victory Womens Road Team before joining the Pro Bikes team.  In addition to his responsibilities as “Shop Comedian” Jamie works tirelessly as the Director of the Weaverville BMX Track.  BMX bike racing has experienced remarkable growth in our area to which Jamie has undoubtedly contributed.  He has two children who are avid BMX racers,  Josie (11 yrs) and Jack (7 yrs) who embody the youthful enthusiasm that is vital to the future of cycling.  Jamie has  enjoyed  long history with bicycles which included a stint as a professional racer with a WNC based team, Cane Creek Cycling Components.  Shortly after he left the competitive arena, he grew out his hair and his stomach and began coaching his own children and countless others.

Oh ya, it is worth mentioning that Jamie is Canadian, or a “Canuck” or whatever you want to call it.  He talks funny and wears strange clothes but we like him anyway, eh?

Phil Shaw

Phil is the newest member of the Pro Bikes team. Phil was previously employed at Suspension Experts and comes with a lot of suspension knowledge and experience. He's easy going and seems to have the tough skin and "hearty" sense of humor needed to survive here at Pro Bikes.

Eric Wineinger

Eric "Whiney Girl" is a Saturday Pro Bikes employee and works mostly to support his very serious "bicycle stuff" addiction. He has a wife (who seems to genuinely love him) and 3 cute kids. You can catch him riding around West Asheville with a little princess riding aboard the X-Tra cycle he tows behind his classic, vintage whatever-not bicycle. He works full-time for FedEx and spends a lot of time taking naps in the Arby's parking lot and arbitrarily tossing packages out of his truck into the French Broad to "get home by 6". I'm just kidding everyone. Eric is really a great guy with a hearty sense of humor. I'm sure he will read this bio and chuckle at my witty comments. I'm sure he would never actually "toss" your package into the French Broad.

Scarlett (R.I.P.)

After a long, full career as "shop dog", Scarlett was laid to rest on June 21, 2010. She was 16 years old and had been experiencing a rapid decline in her health. She has been a part of my life and this shop for a long time and I couldn't bring myself to delete her from the website. Her spirit lives on and she will be missed.

Sprocket

A.K.A. “No No Bad Kitty”, “Loaf”, “Sproaf”, “Boo Boo”, “Kitty Kitty Kitty”….well, you get the picture.  She is the Boss and this is her turf.  Her turf includes but is not limited to the check-out counter, the workbench, the couch, chair, or any other fixed object that she deems worthy.  As long as you recognize this, your visit will be a pleasant one.

Sushi

Sushi provides delicious fishy tasting water for Sprocket! He is a japanse cycling fish. He has long flowing red fins and survives despite irregular feeding and temperature patterns.
